STEM Labs: Elementary

MONDAYS, NOV 4, 11, 18 AND 25

10-11:30 AM

CLOSED

Each class will include hands-on lessons to explore how science, technology, engineering and math all integrate together. The four topics this session will include problem-solving opportunities in Lego Robotics, Computer Coding, Microbiology and Earth Science.

Chemistry

TUESDAYS  Nov 5, 12, 19 AND 26

10-11:30 AM

CLOSED

Students will receive a brief introduction to the chemical elements on the periodic table and use models to build organic molecules.  An interactive review of the states of matter, the effect of pressure and temperature on states of matter, and transitions between these states will be explored using hands-on activities.

Lego Engineering

TUESDAYS  Nov 5, 12, 19 AND 26

12 – 1:30 PM

CLOSED

Use engineering approaches to problem solve as you design and build models using simple machines and solar panels.  Students are presented with fun challenges to test their mechanical and environmental engineering skills!

Genetics

THURSDAYS  Nov 7, 14, AND 21

9-11 AM

CLOSED

Discover the fundamentals of Mendelian Genetics and how traits are passed from generation to generation.  Learn basic modes of inheritance, Punnett squares and probability patterns, genetic diseases and how DNA is packaged inside the cell.

Lego Robotics

THURSDAYS  Nov 7, 14, AND 21

11:30 AM -1:30 PM

CLOSED

Use the LEGO WeDo Education System to engineer and code your own robots.  Students are encouraged to collaborate with friends as they develop problem-solving skills with planning and building robots to accomplish tasks.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING: SCRATCH

MONDAYS:  NOVEMBER 4, 18 and DEC 2, 9
4:00 – 5:30pm

Explore computer science and mathematical concepts using SCRATCH computer coding.  Learn basic coding concepts of loops, if-then-else statements and variables.  This introductory course to programming is taught by an industry expert!

Computer Engineering

MONDAYS:  NOV 4, 18 and DEC 2, 9
5:30 – 7pm

Ever wonder how computers are designed?  Learn about electrical components, circuits, computer design and engineering from a Distinguished Engineer!  In this class, you’ll learn about computer organization while using transistors to build basic components that go into today’s billion-circuit chips.

Lego Mindstorms

WEDNESDAYS:  NOV 6, 13, 20 AND DEC 4
4:30 – 6:00pm

Use the LEGO WeDo Education System to engineer and code your own robots.  Students are encouraged to collaborate with friends as they develop problem-solving skills with planning and building robots to accomplish tasks.
